Backflow prevention: testing, installation and repair

We are ASSE-certified backflow testers. We install backflow preventers, test them every year, repair failed devices, and give you the paperwork your municipality asks for.

Why backflow devices matter

A backflow preventer stops water from a building flowing back into the city’s drinking water. Restaurants, medical and dental offices, car washes, multi-unit buildings and most commercial and industrial properties need one. Many Ontario water suppliers require these devices to be tested once a year by a certified tester.

What we do

Install new backflow preventers on water services, fire lines and equipment
Annual testing by an ASSE-certified tester, with a written report
Repair or replace devices that fail their test
Survey a property to find where protection is needed

Testing across the region

Each water supplier sets its own rules. In Durham Region the Region of Durham sets them, in Scarborough it’s Toronto Water, and in Peterborough it’s Peterborough Utilities. We check what your supplier asks for and test to that.

Are you certified to test backflow preventers?

Yes. GiftedHands is ASSE backflow certified, so we can test, repair and install backflow prevention devices and give you the test report.

How often does a backflow preventer need testing?

Many Ontario water suppliers require a test once a year, and again after a device is installed or repaired. Your water supplier sets the exact rule; we check it for you.

What happens if my device fails?

We tell you what failed, quote the repair or replacement, and retest the device once it is fixed so you have a passing report.
